Thread Protector???

I recently purchased a TX22 Toro model with a threaded barrel. I contacted Taurus re: the threat protector and inquired as to the wrench size require to loosen & tighten it. I checked it first and it's not S.A.E. or metric and there was not 'tool' included with the pistol. Taurus told me a wrench isn't necessary. I would think without some degree of tightening, the thread protector could/would loosen to the point of falling off the barrel due to vibration while in use.

Any thoughts on, or experience with, a loose thread protector???
